💐💙 May At Bluestockings: Events and Updates
Storming Bedlam, Supporting trans Kids and Art and Writing Workshops
Author Events
Join historians Say Burgin and Jeanne Theoharis for a special book launch conversation
In the mid-1960s, as the politics of Black self-determination gained steam, Black activists had a new message for white activists: Go into your own communities and organize white people against racism.
Join writer Irit Reinhiemer, author of Push the Water, in conversation with Sol Brager, author and cartoonist of the forthcoming book Heavyweight for the next installment of our Jewish Antizionist Reading Series.
Push the Water is an antizionist memoir about what it means to be claimed by violent forces and what it looks like to refuse that claim, to choose a queer, liberatory belonging instead.
Silky has been working as an organizer on issues related to racial and migrant justice for over two decades; Unbuild Walls draws from her experience to offer an organizer’s perspective on the intersections of immigrant rights, racial justice, and prison abolition
Join award-winning author Rex Ogle for a discussion and reading of his new YA memoir, Road Home!
In his vulnerable and gripping true story, Rex recounts being outed, kicked out of his home, and struggling to survive on the streets of New Orleans as a teenager. With an estimated 4.2 million youth experiencing homelessness in the U.S. (and 40% of those identifying as LGBTQ+), Rex's story is more relevant than ever and shares a message of hope despite overwhelming circumstances.
In this new collection of over 100 poems, Richard Blanco has carefully selected poems from his previous books that represent his evolution as a writer grappling with his identity, working to find and define “home,” and bookended them with new poems that address those issues from a fresh, more mature perspective, allowing him to approach surrendering the pain and urgency of his past explorations.
A joy-Centered approach to supporting trans children
As a transgender activist who has been out for almost 10 years, Ben Greene has learned a lot about what it means to build a life filled with trans joy. In this conversation, he'll share a few of his favorite "joy exercises" from the book, talk about impactful strategies for building a safe, joyful world for transgender young people, and how to combat misinformation and vitriol where it arises in trying to build those spaces.
Join self-declared world’s greatest writer June Martin, in conversation with Calvin Kasulke, to launch LOVE/AGGRESSION, her debut novel about trans community conflict, surreal architecture, and the curse of total agency. The night will include a discussion between June and Calvin about LOVE/AGGRESSION and whatever else comes up, reading from the novel, a book signing, and June wearing the most exciting outfit she has in her wardrobe.
Join Minneapolis-based author Sasha Warren, who will give a presentation on his new book Storming Bedlam: Madness, Utopia, and Revolt. Storming Bedlam is a radical rereading of the history, theory, and practice of psychiatry that emphasizes the utopian origins of the psychiatric revolution and its roots in the political and economic revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries.

News
Sigh. We have signed yet another extension of the notice to cure in order to continue “negotiating” with our landlords, who so far have not agreed to any of our proposals. We also continue to be harassed by homophobic neighbors for our Harm Reduction work. But, as long as we have the space, we are having events, adding new art, and getting ready for pride!
